In our last lesson we looked into the great subject of “Love” where we discovered a startling truth. Scripture consistently and over-whelmingly uses action words in speaking of love. Could this indicate that actionless love is no love at all? Perhaps if we looked into the teachings of the One who came to teach us what true love is we would understand the “P” word better.
In the divine kingdom of God, love ceases to be some sappy sentimental emotion subject to the feelings of the moment. Indeed, love is the principle of giving what is needed most. We unpacked that idea in the sermon entitled, Understanding the “P” Word. You can watch the sermon by clicking on this link. This is in reference to quote from EARLY WRITINGS
The quote seemed to indicate that God and His Son got together after man sinned and came up with the plan of salvation. The Bible indicates that it was God’s plan before the world began.
Good question Roger,
From much reading of the Bible I’ve discovered that there are times that the inspired record of an event in one place will have details mentioned in another place in the Bible that give more details that could appear contradictory.
Such is the case as you mentioned here in 1 Peter 1:19. In Revelation 13:8 the Bible clearly teaches that Christ was “slain” from the foundation of the world. Yet we know that is not what happened. Jesus didn’t die until the world was about 4,000 years old. So we ask the question, “in what way is Rev 13:8 true.” The answer is, Jesus was committed at the foundation of the world to cover for man’s sin. It is my conclusion that in the same way, long before man was created, God, who knows everything, knew that giving mankind the freedom to choose obedience or disobedience would leave God’s kingdom vulnerable. At that time (before the foundation of the world), because they also knew that freedom of choice would make mankind a being truly in the image of God, they accepted that risk and chose then that they would make a way of escape (even if the details of that plan we’re not fully worked through).
Here’s where I am at with my current understanding. Hope it helps.
