This last Sabbath I shared this simple yet eternal truth with my congregation. “You can’t live without eating!” I’ve been told one can live about 60 days (if well hydrated) without food. The same truth applies to our spiritual life. If we are not “eating” daily the spiritual bread or the WORD of God, we die spiritually.

So me and my congregation are picking up the challenge to be in the Word of God daily in 2018. That’s the goal. But a goal to be reached needs a plan. So here’s a simple breakdown of my plan. To get through the average Bible in one year you need to read about 4 pages. (Just take the total of pages in your Bible and divide them by 365 to get your total). I place two post-it-notes (check out the link) in my Bible. I use them to keep track of where I left off reading each day. So, I read two books of the Old Testament (OT) and then one book of the New Testament (NT). That’s because there are more books in the OT than there are in the NT. Once there are the same number of books left, I read one in the OT and one in the NT and so finish the OT and NT at about the same time.

That’s my plan but there are others like this one from Amazing Facts. The plan you follow is less important than simply following a plan.  Anything to reach the goal of connecting to Jesus. How? by Being in the Word Daily!

Isaiah 28:12 tells us, “This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing…” What is that rest, and that refreshing?  Being in the Word of God! “For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little.” Isaiah 28:10

So here’s the choice. Do we accept His invitation to come into His rest? Will we accept the offer of His personal presence by connecting ourselves to the Word of God daily? One church member said, “But I simply don’t retain it!” Neither do I! That’s why I’m in the Word daily!  You don’t eat once and retain it. You have to eat daily, that is, you have to eat, if you want to live!
